Job Position: Child-Specific Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – School Setting

Location: East Baton Rouge Parish

Pay Rate: $30.00/hr

Schedule: PRN or Monday–Friday | School Hours (must be open to both)


Job Overview
AMMON Healthcare is seeking a compassionate and experienced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide one-on-one nursing care for a medically fragile child in a school setting. The nurse will be responsible for ensuring the student's health, safety, and well-being throughout the school day and may be required to accompany the child on the school bus to and from school. This position is ideal for an LPN who enjoys working with children and is confident managing complex medical needs while collaborating with school personnel and the child's family.

Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one nursing care to a medically fragile student during the school day.
- Monitor the student's condition and respond appropriately to medical needs.
- Perform tracheostomy (trach) care and suctioning as needed.
- Administer enteral (feeding tube) feedings, medications, and related care.
- Document nursing care and maintain accurate records.
- Collaborate with school staff, parents, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- Follow the student's individualized care plan and physician orders.
- Accompany the student on the school bus when required to ensure safe transportation.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable nursing standards and school policies.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and changes in the student's condition.

Qualifications
- Current Louisiana Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience caring for medically fragile pediatric patients.
-Hands-on experience with: Tracheostomy (trach) care, Feeding tubes (G-tube/PEG tube), Airway management and suctioning
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Current TB Testing
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while providing compassionate, child-focused care.
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a school, pediatric home health, or pediatric specialty setting.
- Experience working with children who have complex medical needs.
